Civil Union

Today is the day that Carsten and I had our Civil Union.  It was not the most romantic, but it was still quite special.  I had thought that it would not be that big of a deal, as we have been together for so long and have endured quite a lot in that time.  However, when all was said and done, I felt different.  It is hard to explain, but I felt so connected and loved in a way that I don't think I have ever felt.  It made me think of people who say "Oh, it was no big deal, we just signed a paper" or comments like "We already felt like we were married anyway."  I suddenly felt very sad for those people, not that they asked for my pity.  This event was way more powerful than I had expected or imagined it could be.  Though it was a very private event, I look forward to being able to celebrate the union with everyone once I am in the US.

If you are interested, here are some pictures from the civil union ceremony.
